Devon Vintage Car Club Charities of the Year 2025.

As part of our club activities running events for the enjoyment of our own members and our visitors we also undertake fund raising for our yearly nominated charities.
    
Since 1986 we have been able to present cheque donations to many local good causes as well as filling many collecting tins!

Below you will find details of the two nominated charities that the Devon Vintage Car Club will be supporting during 2025.

ERME VALLEY RDA




 Erme Valley Riding for the Disabled Group is a unique equestrian facility in the South Hams area of Devon that strives to give disabled people of all ages the opportunity to both enjoy the sheer exhilaration and the therapeutic benefits of horse riding and equestrian association, in a safe and structured environment.Our very special horses, not to mention our highly trained staff, will help you or your child to have a tremendous amount of fun in a completely safe environment.
A member of the Riding for the Disabled Association, and accredited by BHS and ABRS, Erme Valley Riding for the Disabled Group exists to give disabled people of all ages the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of riding. Now in its 40th year, Erme Valley currently teach around 160 individual riders, each with physical, cognitive, sensory or social disorders.The current venue, The Brook, has been in operation for 16 years and is a non commercial organisation, relying totally on donations and support from the local community, and currently gives nearly 4,000 rides each year. An army of 180 volunteer helpers assist with rides and lessons, sometimes three to each disabled rider.
We aim to provide education through equine experience, which includes:

  • Improving communication
  • Developing relationships between horse and rider
  • Offering mobility through the horse
  • Providing a positive learning environment

​Previously known as DYAC, we were formed in 1988 by a group of parents who wanted activities for their adult disabled children. Initially run by volunteers and based at Dean Clark House in Southernhay, DYAC soon grew into a busy service providing fun learning and development activities in areas such as technology and Independent Living Skills to disabled adults in Exeter and the surrounding area. A small holiday club for disabled children was introduced in 2000, then a move to custom – adapted premises in 2004 saw an increase in capacity which enabled both services to grow significantly. 
In response to requests from people who used existing services but wanting something more tailored to individual needs, Community Services was introduced in 2011. Then to complete our “menu” of services, Calmer Lives (formally known as BISnet) was formed in 2012.

​Between our two centres The Clare Milne Centre or our smaller Marsh Barton site we have a range of fully adaptable facilities such as;
  • Fully accessible IT suite with a range of assistive technology devices
  • Large and fully accessible Art Room with pottery facilities
  • Sensory Room with a range of accessible equipment, overhead hoist, and multimedia system with projector
  • An accessible beauty salon
  • Large, accessible and well-equipped kitchen
  • Accessible radio production studio
  • Digital hub with green screen and video production facilities
  • Accessible and comfortable social spaces
