LOCAL MOTORING HISTORY

Picture

On this page we have a look back through our photographic archives showing aspect of Devon motoring from the the early days of motoring to more recent times.  The page will be added to as more great images are found.

EXETER BYPASS IMAGES

Our first delve into the archives are a selection of photos of the notorious Exeter Bypass from the early days when it was first opened to the mid 1970s. The Exeter bypass was well known for major traffic jams during the 60s when Ice cream and newspaper sellers could often be seen walking through the middle of the lines of traffic selling their goods. There are some wonderful cars to spot in these photos and we are certainly impressed with the way the then new Swing Bridge was weight tested with as many Steam Engines as possible to fit on the bridge.  Certainly one way of doing it.
